The Brussels International Catholic School was founded in 2004 as a successor of the Institute of Saints Peter and Paul, a small Catholic school founded in 1971. Given the transformation of Brussels into a truly international community, it was decided to open an international school following the Cambridge International Curriculum. Our Pre-Primary and Primary schools both offer a bilingual programe in French and English. The language of instruction in our secondary school is English. Students take the International IGCSE exams at the end of Year 11, and the International A Levels at the end of Year 13.
Over the past, nearly twenty years our school group has grown rapidly, and now numbers three separate entities, BICS Pre- Primary, BICS Primary, and BICS Secondary. Our three schools cooperate in applying our mission.
We are located in central Brussels very close to the European Institutions at three different campuses that are no more than a five-minute walk from each other. The school recently acquired a property next to our secondary school so as to offer further facilities.
The schools are under the guardianship of the Institute of Christ the King, an international order of priests that has its headquarters near to Florence.
Our school is a Roman Catholic school, but we welcome families from other faiths or of none who can identify with our mission statement.
A Tradition of Excellence
The Brussels International Catholic School community (BICS) consists of three independent schools at the pre-primary, primary and secondary levels and is located in Etterbeek, with immediate proximity to the European institutions. From its inception, it has provided an effective bilingual programme designed for an international student body.
Classes are taught in French and English.
The pre-primary school receives children from the age of 2.5 years, and provides a bilingual programme in which classroom instruction is taught 50% of the time in French and 50% in English. In the English section we follow the steps of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and the Belgian-French advanced programme in the French section.
The primary school follows the Cambridge Primary Programme (CPP) and a curriculum approved by the Belgian authorities. Students who complete the primary school curriculum are expected to be bilingual by the conclusion of the sixth year.
As an accredited University of Cambridge Assessment International School our pupils sit the International General Certificate School Examinations (IGCSE) in Year 11, and since September 2014, has offered ‘Sixth form’ studies in Years 12 and 13, at the end of which they take the International ‘A’ level examinations. Our dedicated pupils have consistently received outstanding results and gained entrance to well-respected universities and colleges worldwide.
Balancing liberal arts and sciences, BICS provides studies in mathematics, the natural sciences, history, geography, and in Latin, English and French language and literature. BICS offers sports, art, music and theatre as regular subjects and arranges a variety of options for extracurricular activity.
